The Surf and Sand Inn began life some 75 years ago as one of Tillamook County’s U.S. Coast Guard lookout stations, a purpose it served throughout World War II. When the government sold the property, it evolved into a motel and apartment complex known as the Ford Motor Court.

In the 1980s, a local businessman rebuilt it, entirely converting it into a motel. Not long after, it was taken over by the State of Oregon and sold at auction in 1988. A family purchased the property and renamed it The Inn at Pacific City. In 1993 the Inn was bought by Doug & Patti Olson, who also operated the property, establishing a reputation for value and customer satisfaction.

In 2016, Alex and Ronel Ponot, purchased the property, renamed it the Surf and Sand and built on the Olson’s tradition of service and value. They added new improvements, implemented stringent cleaning standards and brought an authentic international flair to the inn’s operation.

In the process, they assembled the amazing team that operates Surf and Sand today.
